Here is something I find myself wishing for in Piefed: A “suggest a community” option - because not everyone has the time or energy to start and manage their own, maybe if it gets a certain vote and someone volunteers as moderator it gets created.

It seems @zootweetmirrorbot@masto.ai has gone somewhat off the rails, and is repeatedly posting the same wine night tweet from the Maryland Zoo. I like following the account, so I don’t want to block it permanently; instead, I’d like to mute it for a couple of days to give the maintainer some time to figure out and fix what’s gone wrong, similar to what I can do on mastodon.

I have no formal education on voting systems, so if someone can enlighten me with more info I’d appreciate it. But it occurs to me that being a member in good standing – in any social context, not just social media – gives more weight to your opinions and thus, your votes.

This seems like a client issue rather than a piefed issue, but since it seems to affect every client, Piefed is the common denominator.

i cant seem to find on settings

I created a community and selected searching for moderators option, and I see the little message on the community saying “This community needs more moderators. Contact the piefed.social admin team to apply.”, and some other communities have messages displaying similar. Would it not make more sense for this to tell the user to contact the community’s moderators? If not, would it make more sense for there to instead be a button that links to a way to contact the admins themselves if that is necessary?

I have to assume it’s related to anti-AI measures put in place, but for the last week or so I’ve been bouncing between my piefed.social and piefed.zip logins because one will randomly start doing the are you human auto-CAPTCHA in a loop that never ends, but I’ll be able to log in to the other normally. This first happened to me with .social about 10 days ago for at least a whole day. Then it came back. Went out again a day later. I swapped to .zip for a week, but now .zip is doing the Cloudflare thing and .social is fine. I only see the actual behavior in the browser (FF or derivative), but when using Voyager on mobile the symptom is just that the API queries time out or fail, but I’m guessing that it is the same cause.

So after the change to not auto approve followers I changed my settings to approve them. I just had one and I did not approve it but then when I look at my followers the new follower is listed. Is this working as inteneded? Also can we drop followers. Personally im not doing anything in particular of import or running communities or anything else that would make me a public figure so I don’t want any followers really. I mean if I interacted with someone and they contacted me maybe but honestly I would like an auto deny follow requests.

I was trying to add a header to the description of !farmingsimulator@piefed.social with #Header# but it doesn’t seem to work.

I only see the post that I made. Is there maybe a moderation queue I am unaware about that requires me to first verify the post before it is publically displayed? I’ve been using the Microblog feature to crosspost content from some Mastodon instances into one of the threadiverse communities. First off, thank you for working on these features. I’m definitely excited to be able to pull in more content to communities.

I didn’t find a setting to prevent users and bots from following my piefed account without my approval. Is that just not supposed to be there?

I was trying to upload an image in a comment. After messing with it for a while, I figured out that I get a button to do the upload only if I have Markdown turned off. Is this something others are seeing too?

The recent vote quota has been a hot topic and I’m curious about its effects on the site, the feature seems to target power users but I’m wondering about the knock-off effect on content in the platform, since we know about the 90-9-1 rule that applies to most online communities where 90% lurk, 1% post and 9% engage with the posts, I’m concerned that having implemented a feature specifically designed to limit that 10% minority that create the content that the rest consume, have you noticed any issues with content dropping? is there any way to track that? do you know of users who have left because of it? I myself used PieFed before but now I’m using Reddit more, I would understand rate limits but vote quotas are a deal breaker for me whether or not I reach the limit, something about it rubs me the wrong way, and the fact it’s enabled by default on every instance? it feels like we’re punishing away the people who actually keep the platform alive and I wonder if anyone has data on whether this has measurably changed posting behavior or if it’s just a theoretical

Until some time ago (a few weeks or so), I’m pretty sure I could still come across comments written by users I blocked. I know that because I started to tag the users because of that. Now I’ve noted that not only comments by blocked users are completely hidden from me, but the entire thread starting from them, including responses by other users, is invisible.

EDITED: I hate deleting things because I think it can confuse people who saw it and now its gone but this was due to me stupidly checking the low bandwidth mode in settings.

If you look at the local version of the post at https://piefed.social/c/tesseract@dubvee.org/p/2232597/addressing-the-elephant-in-the-room, it has accepted a comment despite the original at https://lemmy.world/post/49817942 remaining locked. I do not see any comments on e.g. piefed.ca so the comment may not have federated.

I finally got around to testing the “follow accounts” feature that was in the latest piefed and it’s awesome The pixelfed integration is very fun — following photographers feels very natural, and gets a lot of image content into my feed instead of just endless links. It does look like loops works too, but I could only see a privacy guides account so I didn’t follow it. I did manage to follow a couple of Bluesky accounts via bsky.brid.gy, but I can’t see any of the Twitter mirrors (like sportsbots.xyz), though I suspect that’s because a lot of those early Twitter shovels ended up on blocklists because they’re technically bots. My favorite follows are definitely publications — there’s a Graphic Policy account on sfba.social and a BBC news account from flipboard.com that fit in great in my feed. Definitely the biggest shortcoming is that there is no way to fetch an account that isn’t already known to your instance (I was hoping to get the Shiba every hour or the capybara every hour accounts, but alas), or a good way to search for accounts on larger instances, like mastodon.social, so I’m curious: what accounts have you found that are a good follow from piefed?

Some (or maybe all?) of the time, posts I’ve previously voted on seem to show now visual indicator. When I click again, the number changes in the opposite direction as expected meaning I undid some previous vote. I’m just using this in firefox on PC. Is anyone else seeing this? I can definitely see the style directly after I vote but before I refresh the page. Thanks!

I’ve deployed piefed.social on a Raspberry Pi and made it public using a Cloudflare Tunnel. Now I’d like to add a Zulip chat instance and, if possible, share login credentials between the two services like the main instance does.

IIRC, PF-dev Rimu recently explained exactly why he was trialing such limits in a recent software update post. I.e., to create a more efficient internal & external software / HW backbone, for us users, AFAIK. Based on network / host / server loads etc, as I read the updates.

After a couple days of discussions about the newly implemented vote quota, I’m kinda exhausted. It seems like a situation we won’t ever agree on. Me personally, I don’t want to argue like this over a piece of software that I have high regards for. It tears us apart, where we should work together.

Sometimes this segment is longer than the post and comments itself and when I’m not near an LTE or 5G cell tower it can cause pages to take longer to load on web. I have never used this feature even once.

So, I used to vote on posts constantly—not really to give karma, but as a quick way to mark them as read to get them out of my feed. It was perfect: a single click, much faster than actually opening the post. But now with the new voting quota in place, I can’t do that anymore without hitting the limit. According to discussions on the instance, the quota was implemented to limit voting activity, and it’s already affecting users who vote frequently.

Comments with images tend to take up a lot of screen space, and usually they’re not very constructive in the first place, so it’d be nice if there was an option to collapse them, and even to hide them by default.

There seems to be an issue with pulling in post titles sometimes, either from Lemmy or other PieFed instances, resulting in the text “(content in post body)” rather than the actual title.

If you’ve been playing with PieFed’s new Follow functionality at all you’ll notice that it’s a bit limited. Yeah you can follow people but you were probably seeing all their posts already anyway - the threadiverse is really not very big.

When l post an image, it automatically creates a crosspost button. But due to some reason, it’s not getting created in feddit and retrofed. Where’s the problem with these websites ??

when i go to my profile there’s “Vote quota used” and then a bar graph that’s roughly a third filled. i am guessing you have a certain amount of upvotes within a certain timeframe but neither one is mentioned in that section!?

Since yesterday, the page layout looks different, and I tried adjusting my font size and UI Compactness settings, but it’s not those that changed. The headline text is a lot larger and it looks weird on a desktop monitor. I think I’m getting fewer posts fitting on the screen.

Not sure if I just missed how this is now a thing but it looks like a malfunction, definitely not optimal. I’ve refreshed the page but, for c/microblogs , the community link to let me know what I’m looking at, is not displaying. I don’t know that this is a help issue necessarily. Just wanted to mention it.

Sorry if it is not the proper place to post this, I’ve been unable to upload images for multiple months now, all clients, plus the piefed.social site (can upload images to post but not to the body text). Most bing up similar error messages when attempting to upload: (Wish I could upload screenshots but I cant, sorry)

Did a quick search for this question in this community and didn’t find it already, so: is there a native way (yes, I know of and use uBlock Origin, and just added these blurbs to my uBlock) to turn off the New communities and Active communities blurbs in the right rail?

I use Summit for piefed.social, and I noticed some communities are showing “no posts”. I thought it was the app’s issue, since when I open piefed.social on mobile browser and desktop browser, the erroneous communities show up just fine. The weird thing is, posts from those instances show up just fine on feeds and when I open them.

I noticed in my files today that it said “You are using 51.9 MB out of a quota of 50.0 MB” - apparently without any enforcement, i.e. I was able to upload a new photo and use it in a post without any problem.

So I was just thinking, the way I look at PieFed is that I like to have the main site up, when I find an article I’m interested in I center wheel click it to open it in a new window and then keep going to find other articles. I then go look at all of the articles one at a time and then come back to the main website.

I asked about this some time ago, and Rimu said that it was coming, but I was checking in to see if it’s still on the roadmap.

Honestly this is the one thing that’s keeping me from for real switching to piefed. I love, like, everything about it. I wish it was a little busier, but I could be a part of the solution there!

Hey piefed people. I’m an admin and I’d like to receive an automatic report notification when certain phrases (namely, slurs) federate to our website. Is there a setting to do that? I’m looking at the moderation tab of the admin panel and it’s just a list of reports. I don’t actually get notified about most reports, which is a problem too. I’d like it to work like the em-dash AI reports that come in.

Ordinarily, when l post an image from this instance, a crosspost button emerges. But it’s not happening now.

I had created an alternate account @loveespresso@cafe.coffee-break.cc and l really love the features of this instance. However, the admin of the instance drew my attention to his limited server and is requesting me to shift it to some larger instance rather than him closing it due to the number of posts and the resulting traffic it’s generating.
