PieFedWhat's the easiest way to upload a short video?

If not what’s the easiest way, and will PieFed support that in the future? (Perhaps PeerTube integration)

I’m not sure video hosting is really on the planned roadmap. Piefed does have decent interop with peertube though, so making an account on a peertube instance and linking it from there would probably be the easiest route. I believe this is what rimu actually does with his piefed feature videos that he makes from time to time. Some others also use file hosting sites like catbox to host mp4’s or webm’s.
Would be nice if you could link a PeerTube account to your PieFed account and have it integrated.

In “Create Post”, choose “Video” and paste the URL of the remote video in the text entry labelled “URL”.
I’d like to be able to Upload a video, having to leave PieFed to post it elsewhere adds a lot of friction.
Many users also don’t know where to do it outside of PieFed which could discourage them.
This feature would consume a lot of storage. Some way to use storage provided by the user could solve that but would be a lot of work to create and fragile to maintain.
This should work like torrents do, actually. Just distribute the load among a lot of people.
(Of course this is not a thing PieFed should solve, but an idea that was worth saying aloud, even though I know no good place for that)
I was hoping more people would get back to you to provide better solutions than what I’ve been using. Catbox.moe has no ads, is donation funded, and allows all content besides CP or gifs that are over 20mb. the problem is it’s blocked in so many countries that less than half of the fediverse that views your post will be able to play your video.
when I first started using Voyager, I could have sworn it allowed uploading video through the posting function and hosting on their own server but I definitely can’t anymore. Let me know if you find a good way. I don’t really like peertube instances because they require a login and each instance seems to only want certain videos and none of them are for low effort shitposts.
Thanks, yea I think friction like this keeps normies (eg. people who don’t run Linux) off the Fediverse, and we want a balance of some normies on here
that’s a good point. I definitely don’t mind if my posts just aren’t getting watched but I feel bad having to explain to comments that they’ll have to use a VPN.
